Climate change refers to long-term shifts in weather patterns. The diverse consequences of climate change include droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity.
Climate change profoundly affects human health, as well as our ability to grow food, our safety and work.
Firuza Foundation identified Climate Action as a key strategic focus area. We are committed to support scientific research, invest in best practice projects that could be replicated, and raise awareness on the impact of climate change, so that we can contribute towards accelerating climate solutions, globally.
Climate Urgency is real. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that 2024 has been the warmest year recorded, the first calendar year that the average global temperature exceeded 1.5°C above its pre-industrial level. International organizations, government representatives and scientists agreed that limiting global temperature rise to no more than 1.5°C would help us maintain a livable climate.
This requires achieving net zero emissions by 2050, which means that current emissions must be cut in half by 2030. But if we don’t take any action, the world can face up to 3.1°C of warming by the end of the century, leading to irreversible impacts on ecosystems and human life.
Adapting to climate consequences protects people, homes, businesses, livelihoods, infrastructure and natural ecosystems. Early warning systems for disasters, for instance, save lives and property, and can deliver benefits up to 10 times the initial cost. But not taking any action for climate solutions will be vastly more expensive. But we must act now.
